The type and frequency of dental radiographs (x-rays) taken are based on
American Dental Association Guidelines. We aim to minimize the amount of x-rays taken with the lowest amount of radiation possible. After examining your child and assessing cavity risk, we will discuss which x-rays are recommended. X-rays are needed for areas that cannot be seen clinically. X-rays can provide a lot of information from checking for cavities to assessing tooth development.
In order to minimize radiation, our office has taken the following steps:
All patients will wear a lead apron and thyroid collar for protection.
Our x-rays are digital. This means they require less radiation than a conventional dental x-ray.
We will recommend an x-ray when we are going to learn something from it.
